Relief from intense heat as isolated rain brings respite to Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: A temporary reprieve from the scorching heat has been granted to residents of Kerala today, as the Meteorological Department predicts chances of isolated rain in various parts of the state. Although no official rain warnings have been issued for any district, there is a higher likelihood of precipitation in the southern regions, according to weather experts.

The prevailing humid conditions over Kerala, coupled with the presence of clouds gathering over the Arabian Sea, create favourable conditions for rainfall. Many areas in the capital city received moderate showers last night, providing a brief respite from the ongoing heatwave.

Considering the ongoing heatwave and inadequate rainfall in the state, authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the sun’s rays are most intense. To conserve water resources, citizens are encouraged to use water judiciously and make an effort to collect rainwater for future use. Carrying a small bottle of drinking water at all times is recommended to prevent dehydration, even if one does not feel thirsty.

Wearing loose, light-coloured cotton attire and appropriate footwear when stepping out can help mitigate the effects of the heat. Using an umbrella or a hat is also advisable to shield oneself from the sun’s rays. With increasing temperatures, the risk of forest fires spreading becomes a concern. Caution is especially urged for tourists and individuals residing near forested areas.

Health and well-being during such weather conditions can be maintained by consuming ample amounts of fruits, vegetables, and beverages like Sambharam. It’s crucial to refrain from leaving children or pets in parked vehicles, where temperatures can rise dangerously. If one feels uncomfortable due to the heat, seeking immediate rest and medical attention is essential.
