THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF Convener EP Jayarajan stated that artists should refrain from spreading anti-left sentiments. Jayarajan made this statement in response to actor Jayasurya’s strong criticism of the Kerala state government for its negligence in timely funding for paddy procurement by Supplyco.
During a public event held in Kalamassery, actor Jayasurya expressed his concerns about the state government’s approach to farmers, while the ministers P Rajeev and Agriculture Minister P Prasad were present on stage. After this event actor Krishna Prasad came forward and criticized the ministers for their handling of the farmers’ issues. Subsequently, actor Hareesh Peradi also strongly criticized the Kerala state government.
In this context, Jayarajan acknowledged that it was indeed true that the government had not been able to pay the paddy farmers. He attributed this delay to the approval holdup in funding from a consortium of banks and asserted that the banks were the root cause of the problem.
Jayarajan then emphasized that artists might not have a comprehensive understanding of the state’s farmers and should therefore refrain from making anti-left statements. He suggested tha,t they take the time to study the conditions of farmers in the state.
Furthermore, Jayarajan added that the state government had done its utmost to assist the people during the Onam festival.
