SDPI to form new youth organization; plans to give membership to PFI activists

Thiruvananthapuram: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) is in the process of establishing a fresh youth organization within the state, with an anticipated announcement scheduled for December. Notably, SDPI has revealed plans to grant membership to activists affiliated with Popular Front of India (PFI), an organization previously banned for its alleged terrorist ties. Meetings have been convened in areas where PFI holds influence to facilitate the formation of this new organization. It’s worth mentioning that the IB is closely monitoring the activities and developments related to this emerging group.

Last year, a five-year ban was imposed on PFI in India. Any form of engagement with the PFI is now considered illegal, carrying the risk of imprisonment for up to two years. The decision to ban this organization, labeled as a terrorist group, was made by the central government with a primary focus on safeguarding national security and maintaining law and order.

Following extensive nationwide raids and arrests carried out by central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and National Investigation Agency (NIA), PFI was officially banned. Investigations conducted by the NIA revealed that PFI had been involved in recruiting young individuals into prohibited terrorist organizations, including the Islamic State. Now, a year after the ban on PFI, it appears that SDPI has introduced a new youth organization, raising concerns about potential links to terrorism.
