Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rainfall over the next four days is expected as a cyclone forming in the North Bay of Bengal threatens to bring torrential downpours to the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha districts today, with an orange alert for Alappuzha tomorrow.
The impending cyclone has already initiated rain showers in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta districts. This rainfall, which began yesterday morning, is expected to continue intermittently throughout the week, particularly affecting hilly regions.
In a special weather advisory, the Meteorological Centre has urged residents in hilly areas to exercise caution and avoid nighttime travel. With the threat of landslides and flash floods looming, safety precautions are of paramount importance.
The situation took a dangerous turn in Pathanamthitta district, where a landslide occurred between Gavi and Moozhiyar at Saipilkuzhi. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential risks associated with heavy rainfall, especially in hilly terrain.
