Thrissur: Actor and former Member of Parliament, Suresh Gopi, has strongly criticised the recent remarks made by Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, where he called for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma. Speaking at a ceremony for panchavarna wall paintings at the Motirakanni Mannupuram temple in Thrissur, Suresh Gopi expressed his concerns about divisive rhetoric at the national level.
In his remarks, Suresh Gopi likened those who seek to tarnish India’s name to “poisonous snakes” and attributed their actions to a particular mental disposition. He voiced his distress over the recent statements emanating from Tamil Nadu, suggesting that such rhetoric fosters discord.
Suresh Gopi emphasised the vital role that temples play in upholding and preserving Sanatana Dharma, stating that they should act as protective shields against challenges to the faith and serve as guiding lights for future generations. He underlined the idea that controversies surrounding Hindu mythology can serve to invigorate Hindu society and that attacks on faith should be met with prayer and spiritual strength.
The dedication ceremony also marked the completion of panchavarna wall paintings at the Mannupuram temple, featuring depictions of Kiratharjuniyam and Kannappa Charita. These murals, completed over a span of six months, add to the temple’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The main function for the dedication ceremony was performed by Temple Melashanti Kesava, adding a touch of grandeur to the evening.
