Thiruvananthapuram: Sri Krishna Janmashtami marks the joyous observance of Lord Krishna’s birth, the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Elaborate arrangements have been made across the state, to commemorate Sri Krishna Jayanti. Cities are bustling today with preparations for the ‘Shobhayatra’ (a religious procession), diligently organized by Balagokulam.
Gokulam is the sacred place where Lord Krishna experienced his enchanting childhood days and where his divine powers were acknowledged. Within every child resides that innate spark of divinity, and Balagokulam serves as a platform for children to explore and express that divine essence.
Balagokulam State President R. Prasannakumar and Public Secretary K. N. Sajikumar announced that an impressive number of two and a half lakh children will adorn themselves as Lord Krishna during the Sobhayatras throughout the state. This year, Balagokulam is marking Janmashtami with the slogan: “Akalatte Lahari, Unaratte Moolyavum Baalyavum” (May the intoxication fade away, awakening both values and childhood).
On the auspicious ‘Ashtami Rohini day’, Krishna temples will host special pujas and prayers. Thousands of devotees visit revered places such as Guruvayur, Udupi’s Sri Krishna Temple, Ambalapuzha, Aranmula, and Padmanabhaswamy Temples to partake in special prayers and celebratory events. Extensive preparations precede these gatherings, ensuring everything is in place. In Kerala, Sri Krishna Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Malayalam star Rohini.
