Kozhikode: The residents of Thamarassery are living in fear with the entry of the drug mafia, and for days, they have been fighting against the gangs that have established drug centres here and are selling drugs. The other day, the gang beat up a young man named Mansoor, a native of Ambalamuk in Thamarassery, in anger over the installation of a CCTV camera. Mansoor was attacked by a drug gang.
The group has also issued death threats to the residents who lodged a complaint. Locals say that the group was active in the Ambalamuk area, including on the banks of the river, and then the group left when the football game started here. Later, a shed was built here, and the sale started. According to local residents, students also come here, and their method is to unleash violence against those who raised their voice against this.
Locals allege that the police are afraid to intervene in the case despite filing a complaint, and they say that the group keeps deadly weapons at their camping site while employing Rottweiler dogs for security outside. When strangers began regularly arriving in the area, CCTVs were installed in nearby houses. However, the gang began harassing the homeowner, who had installed CCTV for the security of his own house, in order to prevent the gathering of evidence.
