KOZHIKODE: An update reported in the Harshina medical negligence case reported that, the investigation team questioned three of the accused individuals on Thursday at the Medical College police station. Among the accused were a doctor and two nurses who were served arrest notices but were released later after providing their statements.
Dr. CK Ramesan, presently serving as an assistant professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Manjeri Government Medical College, along with M. Rehana (Nursing Officer, Kozhikode Government Medical College), and KG Manju (Nursing Officer, Kozhikode Government Medical College), appeared before Assistant Police Commissioner Sudarsanan at the Kozhikode Medical College Police station.
All three were subjected to questioning, and their statements were duly recorded. Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudarsanan explained to the media, “We have served them with an arrest notice and subsequently released them.” He clarified that an arrest notice is typically issued when immediate arrest is unnecessary, and it specifies the time and location for the accused to appear before the police.
These doctors and nurses were on duty during Harshin’s C-section procedure at the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, in 2017.
Recently, the investigation team submitted an updated list of accused individuals to the Judicial First Class Magistrate in Kunnamangalam. The inquiry had uncovered that a pair of artery forceps had been inadvertently left inside Harshina’s stomach during her third delivery-related surgery at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on November 30, 2017.
Harshina, who had been staging a sit-in protest in front of the Medical College, recently decided to withdraw from her indefinite strike due to the latest developments in the case. However, she expressed her intention to continue the protest until she receives complete justice.
