Kozhikode: A cloud of concern looms over Kerala as Union Minister Dr.Mansukh Mandavya officially confirms the presence of the Nipah virus in the state. The alarming announcement comes following the tragic deaths of two individuals in Kozhikode, who have now been confirmed to have succumbed to the deadly Nipah virus.

The confirmation of the Nipah virus infection came after meticulous examinations and laboratory tests, with samples sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for analysis. The results left no room for doubt, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the need for swift and comprehensive action.

In response to this alarming development, a central team of health experts is set to arrive in Kerala shortly. Their mission is to assess the current situation, provide guidance, and coordinate efforts to contain the spread of the virus effectively.

The gravity of the situation is further emphasized by the health condition of a nine-year-old child, the deceased individual’s son, who is currently on a ventilator. The deceased’s wife has been placed in isolation as a precautionary measure as health authorities intensify their efforts to prevent further transmission.

As part of the rigorous contact-tracing process, a list of 75 individuals with primary contact with the affected cases has been compiled. This measure is crucial in identifying potential carriers and containing the virus’s spread within the community.

The deceased individual who passed away recently had also sought medical attention at a private hospital in Vadakara, raising concerns about possible exposure and transmission in that vicinity.

In the meantime, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandavya reached out to Minister Veena George via phone, conveying that the central team’s arrival in Kerala is imminent.
