Idukki: A special investigation team has been constituted to investigate into the security breach at Cheruthoni dam, which is part of the Idukki Hydro Electric Project comprising three dams.
SP of Idukki, VU Kuriyakose, informed about the special investigation team and said that the team will be headed by a DySP.
A security breach occurred at the Cheruthoni dam on July 22, when a man entered the dam site and locked the base of the mass light. A number of locks were recovered from the area. A liquid substance was also poured on the ropes. Safety checks have been conducted on the dam site.
The accused is believed to have fled abroad and a lookout notice will be issued soon. Efforts have begun to bring the accused back home. The SP pointed out that the relatives of the accused said that the accused has some mental issues.
The SP added that currently there is no evidence of any terror activities behind the security breach.
Ernakulam Range DIG said that investigations are on taking into consideration the seriousness of the crime. The Range DIG also conducted an inspection of the dam. More security personnel are deployed for the dam’s security.
A case has been filed against the accused.
