Kozhikode: In response to the Nipah outbreak, all educational institutions in Kozhikode will extend their closure for the next seven days, as declared by District Collector A. Geetha on Friday. The initial announcement of school and college holidays was made on Thursday and Friday following the confirmation of the Nipah outbreak in the district.
During a press conference held after the Nipah review meeting on Friday, the collector reaffirmed the week-long closure of educational institutions, including professional colleges. Additionally, she mentioned that instructions have been issued for online classes due to the growing list of individuals in contact with confirmed cases, which now stands at 1080.
Meanwhile, the district recorded one more Nipah case on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to six. So far, two people died of the brain-damaging virus infection.
