Ernakulam: Chaos and violence marred the campus of RLV College in Tripunithura as members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) clashed in the aftermath of the Mahatma Gandhi University elections. The violent incident unfolded on the college premises after the election results were announced.
Tensions had been simmering between the two student organisations, stemming from the university elections, where ABVP had nominated candidates in opposition to those fielded by SFI. This move was perceived by activists as a challenge to what they characterised as SFI’s authoritarian control over campus politics.
ABVP workers allege that they were targeted by a group of SFI members in a coordinated attack. The altercation quickly escalated, leading to multiple injuries. The skirmish left several ABVP workers seriously injured, with one activist, Arjun, admitted to a private hospital in Tripunithura with severe eye injuries.
