Kozhikode: In response to the ongoing Nipah virus alert in the region, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kozhikode has announced a series of precautionary measures to safeguard the health and well-being of its students and staff. The institute will be taking steps to minimise physical interactions.

From September 18 to 23, NIT Kozhikode will transition exclusively to online classes. The decision was made in accordance with the directives provided by local district authorities and is a proactive measure to mitigate the risk of virus transmission within the campus.

In light of the current situation, all scheduled examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate courses have been postponed. A revised examination timetable will be issued in consultation with the respective deans and heads of departments (HODs). While online classes will continue, attendance requirements for students will remain in place.

Furthermore, students, faculty, and staff members residing in declared containment zones have been advised not to enter the institute premises until receiving official approval from district authorities. Day scholars are urged to attend online classes and refrain from visiting the institute until regular in-person classes resume.

Travelling outside the campus has been restricted for residents currently residing in the institute’s hostels. Movement to and from the campus will be closely monitored and regulated. In addition to these measures, it is mandatory for everyone within the institute to wear masks, maintain a minimum of 3 feet of physical distance, and practice diligent hand hygiene.

The institute has also strongly discouraged visits to outside restaurants, markets, crowded areas, and other non-essential locations. Individuals are advised to avoid crowded places unless absolutely necessary.

Furthermore, NIT Kozhikode has introduced a strict visitor policy, permitting access to the campus only with special permission from the Heads of Departments (HODs), Deans, Registrar, or Director. All visitors must comply with mask-wearing requirements at all times while on the premises.
