Kozhikode: In a major crackdown on gold smuggling operations, authorities at Karipur Airport apprehended five individuals attempting to illicitly transport gold worth a staggering Rs 3 crore.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Basheer and Mohammad Mithilaj from Kozhikode Koduvally, Aziz from Chelakad, and Sameer and Abdul Zakir from Malappuram. The authorities seized a significant haul of 5,460 grammes of gold from these smugglers.
In relation to this incident, two more individuals were taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the broader gold smuggling network. Ligeesh was apprehended by the Customs at Undanchal, Kozhikode, while Asif was taken into custody by the police at Omassery. Both individuals were found near the Karipur airport.
