Thrissur: Following the arrest of CPI(M) leader PR Aravindakshan in connection with the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank fraud case, CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan comes with his articulated rationale behind the arrest.

Aravindakshan was taken into custody after being called in for questioning at the Kochi Enforcement Directorate (ED) office regarding the money laundering investigation involving Karuvannur Bank. MV Govindan’s contention, however, was that the ED’s arrest of Aravindakshan was part of a revenge action.

MV Govindan stated that, “the arrest was a response to Aravindakshan’s prior complaints to the police regarding physical assaults and threats. There is a deliberate effort underway, orchestrated through the central government agency, to destroy the cooperative sector.” He further asserted that the party is not willing to yield to this move and mentioned to the media that the party intends to take resolute action moving forward.

The ED made its third arrest in the case today. Aravindakshan had earlier, lodged a complaint alleging physical abuse by ED officers during his interrogation. Aravindakshan is the first political leader to be arrested by ED in connection with Karuvannur Bank Scam. Former minister and MLA AC Moideen, along with CPI(M) state committee member M.K. Kannan, were questioned by the ED regarding their involvement in the case.
