Wayanadu: Panavalli residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the tiger that had been instilling fear in the locals for more than a month in Panavalli has finally captured. The tiger got trapped in the cage set up by forest department officials around 8.15 p.m. last night. Subsequently, the captured tiger has been relocated to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary.
The strategically placed cage near Panavalli Christian Church marked the culmination of an arduous, month-long effort by authorities, who had employed five cages and 30 CCTV cameras in their pursuit to capture the troublesome tiger. Previous efforts to capture the tiger involved a two-day operation employing tranquillizing darts. Local residents, who had endured months of fear and unease, have collectively breathed a sigh of relief at the news of the tiger’s capture.
However, a decision was made to transport the tiger to Muthanga and release it back into the forest following treatment. This decision faced vehement opposition from concerned locals, leading to a standoff where they blockaded Forest Department vehicles. Eventually, after negotiations, the Forest Department opted to relocate the tiger from the area, an operation that was executed around midnight.
