Kasaragod: After CPI(M) workers were caught committing proxy voting in Kasaragod constituency, it is the turn of Congress ally Muslim League now. Two of its cadres have been found indulging in proxy voting in the same Kasaragod constituency.
The two accused, Ashique and Mohammad Fayas, were caught committing the crime at booth number 69 and 70 respectively. The District Collector has asked both the persons to present themselves tomorrow and give an explanation.
Kasaragod District Collector, D. Sujith Babu, has recorded the statements of the election officials into the complaint relating to proxy voting committed by Muslim League activists.
The statement of the Presiding Officer of booth number 69 and 70, were the crime took place, were recorded by the District Collector along with the other officials’ statements.
The culprits were identified after the Collector examined the video footage of the duo doing proxy voting at the 69 and 70 booths.
Mohammad Fayas is seen receiving voting slip from a local leader before proceeding to cast the proxy vote.
Earlier, three CPI(M) workers were caught red-handed doing proxy voting at the Kasaragod constituency. The communist party came up with a bizarre explanation that their cadres had done ‘open voting’ and not bogus voting.
However, the Chief Election Officer (CEO), Tikaram Meena rubbished the party’s claims and categorically said that the cadres had committed proxy voting. The video footage of the crime has been shown widely by all major media houses in the state. One of the cadre is an elected Panchayat member. The CEO has said that the member will be disqualified and all those behind will face legal actions.
