Kozhikode: In a significant development, four individuals, including a nine-year-old boy, who were undergoing treatment for Nipah, have recovered from the deadly virus. Among the recovered patients were the brother and son of a Nipah fatality. Health Minister Veena George announced the heartening news, confirming that the test results for both patients treated for Nipah have returned negative. Subsequently, the recovered patients have been discharged from medical care.
The nine-year-old child’s recovery was particularly challenging, as he had spent six days on ventilator. Hospital officials lauded this remarkable achievement, highlighting that this marks the first instance in the world where a Nipah patient has recuperated after an extended period on a ventilator. With all four patients now recovered, the anxiety surrounding Nipah in Kerala has been dispelled. As Nipah is now under control in the district, containment zone restrictions have been lifted as well.
