Kochi: In yet another attempt at gold smuggling, authorities at Kochi International Airport successfully intercepted an illicit operation, seizing gold with an estimated value exceeding Rs 53 lakh. The audacious attempt involved concealing the precious metal in both shoes and the passenger’s anus.
The apprehended individual, identified as Shamnas, hailing from Malappuram and arriving from Dubai, raised suspicion among customs officials. A meticulous examination of his belongings led to the discovery of gold hidden within his footwear.
Upon untying the shoes, customs officials uncovered two gold chains weighing a total of 175 grams. However, the investigation took a more alarming turn when further scrutiny revealed an additional 1,038 grams of gold concealed in the form of four pellets inside the passenger’s anus.
