Thrissur: Malayalam film industry bids farewell to one of its esteemed lyricists and folk singers, N.S. Arumukhan, who passed away at the age of 65 in a private hospital in Thrissur. The funeral rites are scheduled to take place today at 3 p.m. at the Mullassery Public Crematorium.
Arumukhan was a prolific creator of folk songs that resonated with the hearts of the Keralite audience. Some of his notable compositions include timeless classics like “Chalakudi Chanthakku Pogumbol,” “Minnaminunge,” and “Pagalumuzhuvan Paniyeduthu,” sung by the late Kalabhavan Mani. His collaboration with Mani resulted in an impressive collection of around 200 songs.
The opening song of the classic Malayalam film Meesa Madhavan, which commences with “Elavathoor Kayalinte,” is one of Arumukhan’s masterpieces. His musical talents extended beyond this, as he also composed songs for other notable films such as Udayon, Meenakshi Kalyanam, and Chandrolsavam.
Arumukhan was born and bought up in Thrissur , Venkitangu. He is survived by his wife, Ammini, and his children: Sini, Siju, Shiny, Shine, Shinoy, and Kannan Palazhi. His grand children are: Vijayan, Shima, Shaji, Ambili, Sati, and Ramya.
