THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government employees and teachers association in the state of Kerala have announced an indicative strike scheduled for February 19, 2024.
While attending a press meet today at Thiruvanathapuram, the pro-BJP Federation of Employees and Teachers Organisations (FETO) explained that they called off a previous indicative strike to protest the denial of benefits by the Pinarayi government to employees.
FETO’s State President, SK Jayakumar, and General Secretary, PS Gopakumar, announced in Thiruvananthapuram that the one-day strike aims to address various demands, including the payment of an 18% Dearness Allowance (DA), the withdrawal of the proposed contributory pension, and the recognition of teacher appointments.
FETO also stated that a strike declaration convention will be held in all the districts of Kerala on December 14, with a Secretariat March in Thiruvananthapuram scheduled for January 30.
Furthermore, FETO highlighted the demand by government teachers in the state for new recruitment. Despite numerous vacancies in various government schools and departments, unemployment in the state continues to rise, and the Kerala government has not taken any action to address this issue.
During the press conference regarding the indicative strike announcement, notable attendees included FETO’s State President SK Jayakumar, National Teachers Union (NTU) State President PS Gopakumar, RRKMS National President P Sunil Kumar, Kerala NGO Sangh President TT Ramesh, General Secretary A Prakash, FETO State Treasurer CK Jayaprasad, Kerala Gazetted Officers (KGO) Sangh Treasurer Rathesh R Nair, Secretariat Employees Sangh General Secretary Ajayakumar, PSC Employees Sangh President TN Pradeep Kumar, Federation of University Employees Sangh General Secretary S Arun Kumar, and other dignitaries.
