THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Minister for Ports, Ahamed Devarkovil, has announced that the first ship is set to arrive at the Vizhinjam International Port on October 15, marking a significant step forward in the country’s development. The port has been meticulously designed to accommodate the world’s largest vessels.
It has been revealed that the initial vessel to anchor at the Vizhinjam International Port will be a commercial ship boasting a capacity of 5000 tons and measuring 235 feet in length, all to be accommodated on a berth of 270 feet. Notably, the port will be equipped with the capability to handle up to 10 lakh containers concurrently.
The Zhen Hua 15, the first ship destined for the Vizhinjam International Port, recently arrived at Gujarat’s Mundra Port from China. It is carrying three cranes for installation at the Vizhinjam port.
The first ship to berth at the ₹7,525 crore deep-water international seaport and container transshipment terminal at Vizhinjam includes one quay crane and two yard cranes, all of which were fabricated in China and will be installed at the port.
Furthermore, it has been announced that the Union Minister for Ports, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially receive the ship in a ceremony scheduled for October 15 at Vizhinjam.
