Thrissur: The most famous of all poorams, Thrissur Pooram is being held at the land of Sakthan Thampuran with full fervour and enthusiasm. Participant temples known as ‘khadaka kshethras’, reached at Vadakkumnatha temple ground in the morning itself, Kanimangalam Sasthavu, being the first to reach. The other khadaka kshethras are Karamukku,Laloor, Choorakkottukara,Panamukkumpally, Ayyanthole,Chembukkavu and Neithalakkavu.
Madathil Varavu Panchavadyam, the traditional orchestra begins at 11.30 am. After ‘Paramekkavu irakki ezhunnallippu’, the world famous ‘Ilanjithara Melam’ will be held at 2.30 in the afternoon. Under the leadership of Peruvanam Kuttan Marar, around 300 artists will assemble for percussion performance.
‘Kudamattam’, where hundreds of colourfully decorated umbrellas will be exhibited in a competitive spirit between Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu. People will carry these umbrellas sitting on the top of the elephants aligned in both sides representing Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu. The spectacular display of fireworks will lit up the sky at 3.30 am tomorrow.
‘Upacharam Cholli Piriyal’, the farewell ceremony is the last function of Thrissur Pooram. The deities will be taken back to respective temples. Farewell ceremony marks the end of pooram celebration with the promise and hope that Pooram will be celebrated next year with the same fervour.
