Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning, predicting the persistence of heavy rain across the state. An orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha districts today, while eight other districts, excluding Kannur and Kasaragod, are under a yellow alert. In response to the inclement weather, schools hosting relief camps tomorrow have been granted a holiday.

The forecast extends to tomorrow, with an orange alert declared in four districts. Additionally, rain warnings have been issued for other regions, with yellow alerts for the Neyyar and Vamanapuram river and an orange alert for the Karamana river. According to reports, widespread rainfall is expected to persist across the state for an additional five days. There is a potential for the formation of a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea.

Cautions from the Central Water Commission advise coastal residents to be vigilant, as wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour are also anticipated. The capital city is already experiencing rainfall, prompting the district collector to instruct revenue officials to be present at their offices, coordinating relief efforts.

Tehsildars have been directed to oversee relief work, and the district collector emphasises that taluk control rooms are 24/7 operational . Residents are urged to contact these control rooms in case of emergencies.
