KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Corporation has decided to reconstruct shops at the location where the shops were previously demolished in Mittai Theruvu.

Around seven months back, Kozhikode Corporation demolished shops that had been constructed by traders in Mittai Theruvu. The Corporation’s action was based on a special branch report, which indicated that constructing shops on the busy roads of Mittai Theruvu would lead to traffic jams and accidents. However, the Corporation is now planning to reconstruct shops at the same location.

At that time, the traders incurred a loss of Rs 30 lakh due to the demolition of their shops. The Corporation had also promised the affected traders that they would provide new arrangements to replace the demolished shops. However, even after seven months, the affected shop owners have not received any compensation from the Corporation.

The Corporation’s new decision to construct a shopping complex has sparked controversy. In this situation, the Corporation has provided a justification, claiming that the construction of the new shopping complex is intended to rehabilitate the affected traders.

The Corporation has also clarified that only concrete buildings were demolished earlier, and the Corporation is now constructing temporary shops. However, there are allegations that even if it’s temporary construction, it will still result in severe traffic issues.
