Thiruvananthapuram: People in Gowreesapattom are worried about ongoing waterlogging, and they think it’s because of the unscientific construction of a bridge that was constructed by the Uralungal Society.
According to the complaints filed by residents, the root cause of waterlogging in the area is linked to the construction of a bridge, which commenced with a budget of rupees five crores. Frustrated with the waterlogging issues, locals have been urging authorities to address the problem.
MLA Kadakampally Surendran has stepped in to address the situation, ordering a halt to the construction of the bridge after residents protested.
The consequences of waterlogging are severe in Gowreesapattom, Kottara, and Kuzhivel, particularly when there is continuous rainfall for just half an hour. The issue extends to several streams, including the Ulloor stream, Pattom stream, Kunnukuzhy stream, and others, where water flow is obstructed by accumulated mud, sand, and garbage. Compounding the problem is the delayed cleaning work that should ideally precede the rainy season.
