Kozhikode: Employees and passengers at the KSRTC bus terminal have escalated their protests, expressing their frustration with authorities who have failed to address the terminal’s structural fragility. The authorities are putting the lives of the thousands who use the terminal at risk. Additionally, the KSRTC is grappling with substantial financial losses due to the building’s fragile condition.
Months have passed since the Transport Minister received the final report from Chennai’s IIT, which highlighted the urgent need to reinforce 90 percent of the pillars and 80 percent of the slabs within the terminal, but no concrete action has been taken in response to these critical findings. The government’s explanation for this inaction is rooted in a financial crisis.
The Kozhikode KSRTC Bus Terminal construction was completed in 2015 at a cost of Rs 75 crore, and now the estimated budget for renovation is Rs 30 crore. Authorities argue that the immediate execution of such an expensive renovation is not feasible.
