Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory, forecasting heavy rains in Kerala for the next three days, starting today. The department has also declared a yellow alert for eight districts across the state. The districts under the yellow alert include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
The district collector has declared a holiday today for schools operating relief camps in Thiruvananthapuram taluk.
According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rains are expected to be accompanied by thunder and lightning. Central Kerala and North Kerala are likely to experience heavy downpours, especially in the upcoming days.
These weather conditions are being attributed to the formation of a double cyclonic vortex along the coast of Tamil Nadu, intensifying the rainfall in the region. In light of the forecast, the Meteorological Department has issued a cautionary advisory urging people to exercise extra vigilance during thunderstorms.
Over the next three days, the India Meteorological Department anticipates rainfall ranging from 51 mm to 75 mm. Yellow alerts will remain in effect for the above mentioned districts tomorrow, as per the department’s latest update.
