KOCHI: In response to the bomb blast at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention Center in Kalamassery, Kochi, CPI(M) Kerala State Secretary MV Govindan has expressed his concerns. The incident occurred this morning at around 9:30 am when a series of bomb blasts took place at a prayer convention of the Christian denomination Jehovah’s Witnesses, resulting in the tragic death of one person and injuries to around 40 others, near Kochi.

The tragic incident took place at the Jehovah’s Witnesses gathering at the Zamra International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Kalamassery, where approximately 2,500 faithful from across the state had assembled for a prayer session.

Govindan commented on the incident, suggesting that it may be a terrorist attack with potential connections to the Hamas Palestine-Israel conflict. He further stated that the bomb blast is suspected to be an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing situation in Palestine. Govindan emphasized that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and severe action will be taken in response to this incident.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also addressed the unfortunate incident, stating that it is an extremely regrettable occurrence in Kalamassery. He noted that all the police officers in Ernakulam district have arrived at the scene and have intensified the investigation. Additionally, the Union Home Ministry has requested a report on the incident.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Crime Investigation Bureau have reached the site and are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
