Kalamassery: The Kalamassery IED explosion has claimed its third victim, a 12-year-old girl named Libina from Malayattoor. She succumbed to her extensive burn injuries in the early hours of Monday. She had been receiving treatment at . A press release from the Government Medical College confirmed that the young girl had suffered severe burns, amounting to 95 percent of her body. She had been on ventilator support since Sunday, according to hospital sources.
The first victim who was found charred to death inside the Zamra Convention Centre in the IED blast on Sunday morning has been identified as Leyona Paulose, a resident of Iringol. Police said that the delay in confirming her identity was due to the fact that she had arrived at the convention center alone, and none of the other attendees were familiar with her. Another woman named Kumari from Thodupuzha also succumbed to her injuries in explosion on Sunday evening. Hospital sources have indicated that four persons injured in the explosion are in critical condition.
A series of explosions rocked the international convention center in Kalamassery. More than 50 people sustained injuries, with some in critical condition. The venue had been hosting members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a minority Christian group, for the concluding day of their three-day prayer meeting. Within hours of the incident, a man named Dominique Martin who identified himself as a Jehovah’s Witnesses member surrendered to the police in Thrissur, confessing to his responsibility for the multiple explosions.
The NIA team has also gathered the details of the blast. After the arrival of the NIA team from Delhi, the matters regarding taking up the investigation will be decided. Currently, the state police chief Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib has ordered the formation of a special team to investigate the blast case. ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, who is in charge of law and order, is in charge of the team.
