Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant step to support the livelihoods of street vendors, the SVANidhi loan programme was officially launched by the Prime Minister, aimed at empowering street vendors. The project’s inaugural phase commenced in Thiruvananthapuram district, with 200 individuals receiving a loan of rupees two lakh each. The loan distribution event was organised by the BJP Medical College Area Committee, and District President Adv. VV Rajesh distributed the loan. The programme was held under the leadership of Area President Gopakumar.
As of now, approximately one thousand roadside vendors have registered for this scheme. The programme is being carried out in collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI) in three phases, with organisers confirming that an additional 76 lakh rupees will be disbursed through this initiative.
