Thiruvananthapuram: In a veiled acceptance, the Secretary of CPI, Kanam Rajendran, said that the Lok Sabha election has shaken the foundation of the Hindu votes that traditionally went to communist party.

CPI is the junior partner in the CPI(M) led Left Democratic Party that is ruling Kerala. Kanam Rajendran, while speaking in a press conference, said that there is no need to ignore the fact that Hindu vote share for the party have shifted. However, he added that a correct assessment of the extent of damage that Sabarimala issue had caused to the party will be gained only after reports from grass root levels.

Even after admitting that Hindu vote foundation of the CPI got shaken, the communist leader said that the policy taken by the government in Sabarimala issue was correct and will continue. He said that the election verdict is not a verdict against the present communist government.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) State Secretary, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, today said that the party policy regarding Sabarimala verdict was the right thing to do. He said that the party supported enlightenment values and will continue to do so reaffirming the party’s willingness to take women to the holy shrine in the coming months.
