Thiruvananthapuram: The state government allocated funds for the dental treatment of Minister R. Bindu. Following the approval of funds for the minister’s spectacles, an additional Rs. 11,290 has now been sanctioned for her toothache treatment. The Department of Public Administration has issued an order stating that Rs. 11,290 will be sanctioned for the treatment cost at a private dental clinic in Irinjalakuda.
This move follows the minister’s previous allocation of Rs. 30,500 from the government treasury for the purchase of spectacles, a move that drew criticism during a time when the state is grappling with a financial crisis. Minister Bindu defended her decision at the time, stating that she bought expensive glasses because she is a good reader and computer user.
The state is facing challenges, with the welfare pension for the poor remaining unpaid for three months. Additionally, outstanding amounts owed to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have not been fully paid, as only Rs. 30 crores out of the expected Rs. 50 crores per month are currently being paid.
The state government’s assertions of advanced medical facilities in government hospitals stand in contrast to the choices of ministers who opt for expensive treatments in private hospitals. The financial burden for these is borne by the public through taxes.
