Thiruvananthapuram: Three shops caught fire in Karamana on the eve of Diwali. The fire broke out at approximately 7:30 PM on Saturday at a shop named Chandrika Store. The fire also spread to a nearby grocery store and a stationary shop. All three shops were owned by Radhakrishnan Nair, a resident of Thamalam.
At the time of the incident, five individuals, including Radhakrishnan Nair, were present in the shop. There were no reported serious injuries. Two motorcycles parked in front of Chandrika Store were also caught on fire. The preliminary report indicates a loss of goods totaling around Rs 50 lakh, including Rs 1.5 lakh in cash collected from sales.
The incident occurred during peak business hours as people were buying firecrackers for Diwali celebrations. Witnesses suggest that the fire might have been caused by a spark from one of the firecrackers being burst outside the shop by customers.
The fire brigade arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. Two individuals injured in the incident were shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital in an ambulance.
