KANNUR: At first glance, everyone will be confused about whether it is a school or a CPI(M) party office.
Yes, the pathetic incident took place at Government Higher Secondary School, Chala, in Kannur district. This is because the walls of the government school were painted with pictures of the CPI(M) party under the guise of beautification.
Images of CPI(M) party leaders, the Kuthuparamba Martyr’s statue, and the party’s emblem have been inscribed on the school entrance wall in the name of beautifying the school. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to inaugurate the newly constructed amphitheater at the school.
An amphitheater is an open-air venue used for entertainment, performances, and sports.
As part of preparations for the Chief Minister’s arrival, the walls of the government school were covered with party paintings.
Some local residents responded to the incident by stating that the misuse of public funds and properties for propagating left ideologies in the district is increasing, and injecting left ideologies into school children through this covert method of propagation is unacceptable. They also assert that this could not have happened without the connivance of the CPI(M) party and other Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) officials.
However, soon after the issue became controversial, the school authorities tried to claim that they were not involved, and it was painted by an agency appointed by the Kerala government. As protests gained strength, some of the pictures were removed by the authorities.
