IDUKKI: Deshabhimani, the Malayalam newspaper known (CPI(M) mouthpiece), has apologized for publishing fake news.
Today, Deshabhimani newspaper has publicly apologized for disseminating fake news regarding Mariyakutty’s protest against the Kerala government’s delay in disbursing welfare pensions. On November 8, the 85-year-old Mariyakutty staged a protest in Adimaly Town, Idukki district, highlighting the pension issue.
Earlier the newspaper published Mariyakutty was ineligible for social welfare pension due to alleged ownership of acres of land and two houses. Subsequently, CPI(M) activists, influenced by the fake news, targeted her on social media and even attacked her residence, attributing her protest to damaging the CPI(M) party’s image.
In response to this situation, Mariyakutty, on November 13, submitted an application to the Village Office to verify the ownership of any land under her name. She also informed them that she would seek legal support against those spreading false propaganda about her.
Following that, Deshabhimani’s newspaper for today (dated November 15, 2023, page 7) published an apology note.
