Kannur: The Thunderbolt team has intensified its efforts in the search for communist terrorists in Ayyankunnu. The search follows an encounter in the dense forests of Njettithod and the border forest area of Karnataka, where the terrorists managed to evade capture.
Last Monday, the communist terrorists engaged in gunfire with the Thunderbolt team. Despite retaliatory efforts, the terrorists eluded capture, prompting the team to intensify their day-night search. Two firearms used by the terrorists have been recovered from the area. To prevent their escape, rigorous checks have been implemented in the border region, with additional police deployed.
Investigations revealed that the terrorists had constructed makeshift shelters and prepared meals in the Njettithod forest area. It is estimated that approximately eight communist terrorists remain concealed within the forest. Local residents reported hearing gunshots in the forest just yesterday.
