PATHANAMTHITTA: In anticipation of Mandalakalam Mahotsavam, the Sabarimala Swamy Ayyappan Temple in Pathanamthitta is set to open today. Melshanti (chief priest), K Jayaraman, will open holy shrine and light the lamp in the presence of Thantri Kandaru Mohanaru at 5 pm today.
The pilgrimage is scheduled to commence tomorrow. Today, the Avarodhana ceremonies for the newly appointed Malikappuram priest will take place.
One of the significant events during this period is the Mandalamasa Pooja, which is slated for December 27 and will commence at 10 p.m. that night. The Makara Vilakku, a celestial light that appears on the horizon three times soon after sunset, is set to occur on January 15. The holy hill shrine will close on January 20, 2024 marking the end of the annual pilgrimage season.
The Travancore Devaswom Board has assured devotees that all necessary preparations have been completed to facilitate the smooth conduct of rituals and ceremonies. A virtual booking system has been implemented to allow pilgrims to have darshan and perform poojas, ensuring a seamless and safe experience for all Ayyappa devotees.
