Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the state , anticipating rain accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next three days. This forecast is in response to the formation of cyclone “Midhili” in the Bay of Bengal.
Following the cyclone’s formation, the IMD has forecasted the likelihood of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kerala, over the next three days. In response to this prediction, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for various districts. On the 19th, a yellow alert was declared in Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts, followed by Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on the 20th. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions in light of the expected weather conditions.
Emerging as a highly severe depression in the central-west Bay of Bengal, Cyclone “Midhili” has strengthened into a cyclonic storm. The India Meteorological Department cautions that the cyclone is projected to travel in a north-northeast direction, with an anticipated landfall on the Bangladesh coast either tonight or tomorrow morning.
In addition to Cyclone “Midhili,” cyclonic eddies have been identified near the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast in the Bay of Bengal and close to the Kanyakumari coast in the Arabian Sea. Currently, the cyclonic disturbance is positioned 190 km east of the Odisha coast, 200 km south-southeast of West Bengal, and 220 km southwest of Bangladesh.
