Thrissur: Startling revelations have emerged as the former corporation secretary exposes a financial irregularity amounting to Rs. 20 crores in the Amrit Project of Thrissur Corporation. The ex-secretary, R Rahesh Kumar, disclosed that an unauthorised bill of Rs. 20 crores was illegally created in the Rs. 56 crores drinking water project. A letter detailing these revelations has been sent by Rahesh Kumar to the Principal Director of the local self-governing department.
According to the ex-secretary, the mayor was allegedly involved in the improper awarding of the project tender, and Rahesh Kumar claims to have received death threats for refusing to approve the illicit bill. In response to these threats, Rahesh Kumar has formally requested police protection, citing a credible threat to his life.
The letter further highlights that the tender order was issued prematurely, without the secretary’s knowledge, leading to the creation of an unauthorized bill totaling Rs. 20.40 crores. The irregularities specifically pertain to the Amrit Project’s initiative to supply drinking water from Peechi to Thekkinkadu Maidan through the installation of 800 mm pipes. Interestingly, the pipes earmarked for the project, as documented, have yet to be received.
Additionally, the complaint alleges that when the possibility of uncovering the fraudulent activities arose, the corporation engineer and Amrit project managers misused the login and password credentials of the ex-corporation secretary.
