IDUKKI: BJP leader and actor Suresh Gopi has assured financial aid to Mariyakutty and Annakutty.
After visiting Mariyakutty’s house in Adimaly, Idukki district, Suresh Gopi promised a lifetime pension for both of them. He stated that the social welfare pension for Mariyakutty and Annakutty will be funded from his own pension as a Rajya Sabha MP.
After conversing with Mariyakutty and Annakutty, Suresh Gopi requested the media not to publish the emotional conversation. He also invited both individuals to participate in his daughter’s wedding function. Suresh Gopi informed the BJP Idukki district general secretary, VN Suresh, to arrange for their attendance at the event.
While addressing the media, Suresh Gopi said that Mariyakutty and Annakutty have the right to protest for their pension. He emphasized that this right isn’t limited to any specific political party. He then questioned the Kerala government’s imposition of a social security cess of Rs 2 on petrol and diesel, highlighting that these funds are not being disbursed to support the underprivileged.
Mariyakutty was recently targeted by Deshabhimani (CPI(M) mouthpiece) newspaper and CPI(M) activists for her protest against the Kerala government for not disbursing social welfare pension. On November 8, Mariyakutty and Annakutty staged a protest in Adimaly Town, Idukki district, holding a begging pot and claimed that the Kerala government had forced her into a situation of begging.
Following the incident, BJP leader and actor Krishna Kumar had promised to provide an amount equivalent to the social welfare pension for a year.
