Thiruvananthapuram: The state is gearing up for another heart transplant surgery as the heart, kidney, and pancreas of Selvin (36), a resident of Kanyakumari who experienced brain death in Thiruvananthapuram, are set to be airlifted to Kochi. The organs will be transported from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi by helicopter, reaching the destination within an hour. The recipient, 16-year-old Harinarayan, currently undergoing treatment at Lisie Hospital in Kochi, is awaiting the life-saving heart transplant. The hospital is fully prepared to commence the operation as soon as the organs arrive.
On November 21, Selvin sought medical attention at Thiruvananthapuram KIMS Hospital due to a severe headache. Unfortunately, brain death occurred while undergoing treatment following the discovery of a brain hemorrhage. Opting for organ donation through Mrithasanjeevani, Selvin’s wife volunteered for the noble cause. One kidney and pancreas will be allocated to individuals receiving treatment at Aster Medicity, while another kidney and eyes will benefit patients in Thiruvananthapuram. Traffic control measures have been implemented in both Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to facilitate the timely and smooth transport of life-saving organs.
