ERNAKULAM: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has expressed deep grief over the deaths of four lives in a stampede at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in Kochi.

“Deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the tragic demise of four students in a stampede at Cochin University of Science & Technology. Heartfelt condolences to their families. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” stated the Kerala Governor.

The stampede occurred at the University during a music tech festival organized by students, claiming the lives of four students and injuring over 50 on Saturday night.

Sixteen students have been discharged from Kinder Hospital, while two have been shifted to the ICU.

After visiting the spot, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for (Law and Order) M R Ajith Kumar said the incident as a “freak accident.” He added that sudden rains in the area led to a large crowd of students seeking shelter, resulting in the stampede.
