Palakkad: The victim of the recent stampede at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) Tech Fest, Alwin Joseph (23), had come to Kochi with dreams of securing a job. Alwin, a native of Mundur, Palakkad, was an electrician. He had completed a fire and safety course at a private institution in Kottayam and wrote his exams in CUSAT. He had reached Kochi to collect his certificates.

Alwin had reached Kochi yesterday and stayed at his sister’s home, who works as a nurse in Ernakulam. He had many friends at CUSAT. Therefore, he continued to stay there to attend the concert with his friends.

Alwin was born into a financially struggling family. In order to support his parents, he was doing catering and other jobs. His parents are daily-wage workers. His father said that he left the house by saying that he was going to Kochi to seek a job. They were unaware of the events until they saw Alwin’s photo on TV after the incident. His sister and husband received Alwin’s body.

Alwin Joseph is one of the four individuals who lost their lives in the stampede that occurred during the Tech Fest organised by the CUSAT.
