ERNAKULAM: Kerala State Health Minister Veena George informed the media that the health condition of the two women students injured in the CUSAT stampede and currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi has significantly improved. Both students have been shifted from ventilators.
The minister addressed the media following her visit to the students currently undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kochi.
The Minister emphasized the need to ensure psychological support for the students. She mentioned that many students are still not over the shock of the sudden accident.
A tragic stampede occurred on November 25th (Saturday) at around 7 pm at CUSAT in Kochi, claiming the lives of four individuals, including three engineering students from CUSAT. Currently, more than 40 injured students are receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
Over 1,500 individuals, including students from the campus and outsiders, had gathered at the open-air auditorium at CUSAT in the evening to attend a music concert by popular singer Nikhita Gandhi. This concert was part of the University’s annual festival, known as ‘Dhishna,’ inaugurated on November 24th.
However, a sudden downpour disrupted all the arrangements, leading to people waiting outside pushing into the auditorium. Simultaneously, students inside rushed to exit, causing chaos as there was only one available gate. Amidst the commotion, individuals were pushed and fell due to the steep steps, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives.
