Ernakulam: Ernakulam District General Hospital has written a new history in the field of health. For the first time in the history of organ transplantation in Bharat, a kidney transplantation was completed at a district-level government hospital. Here, a 50-year-old mother donated her kidney to her 28-year-old son.

Hospital officials said both are doing well. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Shahir Shah said that the surgery was completed after receiving special training. The kidney transplant surgery at the General Hospital has received approval recently.

The hospital is registered and certified by the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (K-SOTTO). About 50 lakh rupees have been spent for surgery and for the modern facilities that have been prepared in the super specialty block.
