Kochi: The principal of the School of Engineering has been replaced after four people died in an accident at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) campus. VC Dr PG Sankaran informed that Dr Deepak Kumar Sahu has been removed from his post.
The action comes after the principal’s letter to the registrar asking for police security for the music night in connection with Tech Fest, came out. The VC said that the syndicate has appointed a three-member committee to probe the accident and will submit a report on Friday. He also stated that the principal was asked to step down from the position because of the ongoing investigation.
KK Krishnakumar, Dr Sashigopalan and Dr Lali are members of the investigation committee. The investigation committee will include in the report not only the cause of the accident but also the recommendations on what steps should be taken to avoid such situations.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission has asked for a detailed inquiry into the accident in CUSAT and also to immediately file a report. The commission has also taken a case in the incident. Commission member VK Beena Kumari directed Aluva Rural SP and Cochin University Registrar to give a detailed explanation on the investigation including the security breach during the event.
