Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan hit out at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the notification relating to the reappointment of Kannur University Vice-Chancellor. The Governor openly stated that the Chief Minister personally visited his office to advocate for the reappointment.
“There was a pressure from the Chief Minister. He came directly to the office. Mentioned that his native place is Kannur. Despite being informed that the reappointment was illegal, the Chief Minister insisted, citing the advice of the Attorney General,” remarked the Governor. He further revealed that the Chief Minister’s adviser also visited him during the ordeal.
The Governor admitted to signing the reappointment order despite knowing it violated the law. He accused the government of using the Higher Education Minister as a tool in this matter. Regarding the Chief Minister’s position, the Governor stated, “Whether the Chief Minister can continue in his position is a moral question. Let them decide this. I am not calling for anyone’s resignation.”
Earlier today, a bench of Chief Justice of Bharat DY Chandrachud, also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra set aside the Kerala High Court order and quashed the notification of re-appointing the person as VC of Kannur University.
