Kollam: The people of Kerala were shocked to hear that a 20-year-old woman was among the accused in the kidnapping case. ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar said that she worked with her parents to carry out the act when her income from the YouTube channel stopped.
The accused Padmakumar’s daughter runs the YouTube channel under the name ‘Anupama Pathman’. She earned Rs 3.8 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per month. But due to technical reasons, Facebook stopped paying in July. Anupama enrolled for a degree in computer science but was unable to complete the course. She wanted to pursue LLB.
It was during this time that she started earning through her YouTube channel. According to the police, the girl had been suffering from depression since July. Following this, Anupama agreed to collaborate with her parents. At first Anupama was against such an act. Having no other choice, she was aiding the abduction. The ADGP stated that all matters in the abduction were carried out by her parents Padmakumar and Anithakumari.
The ADGP said that the main hero of the case is the girl’s brother, the second hero is the abducted girl herself and the third is the couple who drew the sketch based on the information given by the girl. The support and information provided by the public also were very helpful. He said that the accused agreed that it was the pressure from the police and the media that forced them to abandon the child.
Padmakumar needed Rs 10 lakh urgently. The abduction attempt was made after failing to get the money from the people they tried to borrow. Padmakumar has assets worth Rs 5 crores but could not possibly encash it. The urgency to settle a debt drove them to the decision to attempt child kidnapping.
