THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has gathered crucial evidence against CPI leader N Bhasurangan in relation to the Kandala Co-operative bank scam case.
During the interrogation at the Kochi office, Maranalloor panchayat president A Suresh Kumar, a former member of the Kandala Co-operative bank management committee, along with former panchayat vice president Gopakumar and Co-operative bank secretary Baiju Rajan, provided statements against N Bhasurangan in the case.
Suresh Kumar stated that the irregularities commenced early on and clarified that they did prior to his tenure as a member of the Kandala Co-operative bank’s board of directors. The scam initiated before his induction into the governing body. He further mentioned his resignation from the governing body, was based on the directives of the CPI(M) party.
Following the recording of statements from the above mentioned three, the ED intends to question Bhasurangan’s other close aide also.
Meanwhile, the bail plea of Bhasurangan and his son Akhil Jith, currently in remand in connection with the case, is under consideration by the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) special court in Kochi.
The bail application highlights Bhasurangan’s health concerns, citing heart disease. It is also mentioned that during remand, he encountered health issues and required treatment at Ernakulam General Hospital for three days. Bhasurangan has petitioned the court, emphasizing the necessity of bail due to his health condition.
